Pierre Gasly Extends Contract with Alpine Until 2028

French driver Pierre Gasly has signed a contract extension to continue with the Alpine Formula 1 team until 2028. This news comes as a boost for the team, which seeks to consolidate its long-term project. Gasly, who joined Alpine in 2023 with an initial contract until the end of 2026, will play a key role in the next era of Formula 1. The 2026 season will mark the introduction of significant changes in aerodynamics and engines, which promises to reconfigure the order of competition. The contract extension announcement was made before this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, a race Gasly won in 2021 while competing for AlphaTauri. The team emphasized that this agreement demonstrates their confidence in Gasly as the driver who will lead the team into the new regulatory era starting in 2026. The longevity of Gasly’s contract contrasts with the situation of his teammate. Franco Colapinto, who replaced Jack Doohan in Imola this year, still hasn’t secured a seat beyond this season.

Despite Alpine being at the bottom of the standings, the team will switch to Mercedes engines next season, which generates optimism about their ability to become competitive again.

In the announcement, Gasly highlighted the importance of Alpine’s CEO, Flavio Briatore, and Renault’s new CEO, François Provost.
Pierre Gasly permanecerá con Alpine hasta 2028.
Pierre Gasly will stay with Alpine until 2028.

I am excited to commit my long-term future to Alpine. As a Frenchman, especially, driving for a French automotive company makes me feel very proud. Since I joined in 2023, I have always felt that this team is the right place for the future.

Pierre Gasly
Gasly, considered one of the best midfield drivers, could aspire to compete for the championship with the right car. Alpine, currently last in the championship, will use Mercedes engines next season and hopes to regain competitiveness with the new regulations. Alpine’s announcement noted that Gasly’s performance on the track and his growing status in the Formula 1 paddock have evolved constantly, showing speed, consistency, and leadership.

Since I returned to the team, I have always affirmed how important it is to build and grow the competitiveness of the BWT Alpine Formula 1 team. We are well prepared for the new era of Formula 1, which will begin in 2026, and now we have our lead driver confirmed to take us into the future.

Flavio Briatore
The team has not yet decided who will be Gasly’s teammate for next season. Colapinto still has possibilities, and the team also has Paul Aron in its young driver ranks. Sources have indicated that Doohan is the least likely to move up in 2026, given his brief stint in the current season.
