Ferrari enters the world of sailing with the Hypersail project, led by the renowned Italian sailor Giovanni Soldini. This initiative merges racing tradition with technological innovation. The design of this innovative 100-foot monohull ocean yacht, with a foil on the keel, bears the signature of French naval architect Guillaume Verdier. Its construction is taking place in Italy, at an undisclosed location, with a launch date planned for 2026. It aligns perfectly with the Ferrari tradition, drawing inspiration from our Hypercar, three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ferrari, known for its iconic Formula 1 team, present since the beginning of the championship in 1950, has achieved recent successes at Le Mans, where it has won the last three editions. The yacht prototype, according to Ferrari, will have three points of contact to stabilize its flight, including a tilting keel that will support one of the foils. In addition, it will be the first in the world to be completely energy self-sufficient. Elkann ruled out any participation in the Copa América, whose 2027 edition will be held in Naples.

The Copa América is regulated and this boat is designed to go beyond the rules. This project gives us the opportunity to experiment in new areas.

Ferrari did not provide details on the cost of the project, but the Chief Financial Officer, Antonio Picca Piccon, assured that the investment is planned and will not have a significant impact on capital expenditure. Soldini, with over 30 years of experience in ocean competitions, including two solo races around the world, pointed out that the goal is to keep the crew as small as possible, between eight and twelve people. Ferrari reported that 20 people are working full-time on the project, with the collaboration of another 80-90, and that there will be technology transfer from the sports car area, mainly from the F80 supercar presented last October. Neither Elkann nor Soldini revealed details about the competitions in which the flying monohull could participate. Soldini commented that before setting competition goals, they want to finish the development of the boat and take it to the sea. Then they will evaluate their possibilities.
