Ferrari will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Niki Lauda’s first world title with a retro livery at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.
In 1975, Lauda secured the championship in Monza, driving a Ferrari 312 T and finishing in third place. His teammate, Clay Regazzoni, won the race.
This success was the first of three titles for the Austrian, including those of 1977 and 1984, and ended an 11-year title drought for Ferrari.
To pay tribute to Lauda’s first championship, Ferrari will present its cars with a special livery that emulates the design of the 1975 car. The drivers and mechanics will also wear retro overalls. The 2025 car will sport the same shade of red as the 312 T, feature a white engine cover, similar to Lauda’s famous car, and a silver rear wing, designed to resemble the aluminum one used in 1975.Meanwhile, the original 312 T driven by Lauda will be exhibited at the Ferrari museum in Maranello, and Jean Alesi will perform demonstration laps at Monza with the 1995 412 T2, the last Ferrari F1 car with a V12 engine.
Ferrari arrives at Monza this weekend after a double retirement at the Dutch Grand Prix, where Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc suffered separate accidents.
To make matters worse, Hamilton has a five-place grid penalty for Monza for ignoring double yellow flags on his reconnaissance laps before last Sunday’s race at Zandvoort.
