The excitement of Formula 1 reaches its peak! With three races remaining and three drivers in contention, the 2025 World Drivers’ Championship is red hot. After 21 exciting rounds, the season is heading towards an electrifying finish where everything is at stake. Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Max Verstappen are the protagonists vying for the title in this thrilling season finale. But, who will take the victory?

The Championship Fight

After a perfect weekend in São Paulo, Norris leads with a 24-point advantage over his McLaren teammate, Piastri. Both young drivers are seeking their first F1 crown. Verstappen, the current world champion of Red Bull, is 25 points away. George Russell, of Mercedes, is in fourth position, but his mathematical chances of winning the title are minimal.

The Form Moment

Although Verstappen achieved three victories in four races before the Mexico City Grand Prix, Norris is undoubtedly the driver in the best form currently. Norris, after overcoming some difficulties with the McLaren car at the beginning of the season, has achieved pole position and victory in consecutive races, including a victory in the Interlagos Sprint. This has transformed him from chaser to chased. On the other hand, Piastri’s performance has declined. The Australian was the big favorite after winning the Dutch Grand Prix, but he hasn’t managed to get to the top of the podium since then, nor has he even achieved a podium finish in the last four races. This has spurred Norris, who is now in a privileged position in the fight for the championship.

When Could the Title Be Decided?

In the three remaining races (with 25 points for the winner) and a Sprint (eight points) there is a maximum of 83 points available. After the next race in Las Vegas, there will still be 58 points at stake. This means that Norris, even with a perfect weekend and without his rivals scoring points, would not be able to secure the championship in Las Vegas, as he could only extend his lead to a maximum of 49 points. Therefore, the title could be decided in Qatar, where a driver would need to have an advantage of at least 26 points over the second-placed competitor. Norris could triumph with four second places in the races and the Sprint, while Piastri and, especially, Verstappen, hope that the Briton has problems in some race.

Other Important Aspects

In addition to the fight for the drivers’ title, with the constructors’ championship already secured by McLaren, the most fascinating battle in this final triple-header of races is between Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari. These three teams are competing for second place in the team standings, crucial for the economic prizes and the boost for next season. The final position in the championship also affects the wind tunnel time that is allowed to work on next season’s car. After a good weekend in São Paulo, Mercedes is in second place with 398 points, with Red Bull, powered by Verstappen, 30 points behind. After a disastrous double retirement, Ferrari is fourth with 362 points.
