Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Formula 1 Secures its Future until 2030

Formula 1 has confirmed a four-year extension for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, ensuring its presence on the calendar until the year 2030. The news comes as a relief to fans, considering the growing demand for new circuits and the uncertainty about the future of some races. The Baku circuit, which was added to the F1 calendar in 2016 as the European Grand Prix, and then renamed the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2017, has earned a special place in the hearts of fans. Its 6-kilometer urban layout, which winds along the coast and passes through the old town, offers a unique spectacle.

The circuit is known for its unpredictability, with races full of action and memorable moments in 2018, 2019, and 2021. With the previous contract ending in 2026, the renewal was crucial to ensure the continuity of the event.

“There is incredible energy in the city of Baku and since our first Grand Prix here in 2016, Formula 1 has consistently received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the people of Azerbaijan,” said Stefano Domenicali, head of F1.

Domenicali also highlighted the uniqueness of the circuit, with technical sections and long straights that run along the impressive coast and the historic old town, promising exciting races every year. Although it has offered classic events, the Baku event has not had the same impact as some of the new F1 circuits, such as Miami or Las Vegas. The Baku paddock is known for being one of the quietest of the season, with teams often receiving a limited number of guests. Until last year, Baku was a fixture in the first half of the season, but in 2023 it was scheduled consecutively with Miami, which created logistical challenges for the teams. In 2024, the race moved to the end of the calendar, as an independent event between Italy and Singapore, a position it maintained this year.
