Formula 1 Teams Extend Their Commitment to the F1 Academy

The ten Formula 1 teams have formalized their commitment to the all-female F1 Academy series by signing a new multi-year agreement. This agreement ensures the continued support for the drivers and the use of team designs on the vehicles beyond the current season.

The agreement is based on the model implemented in 2024, where each F1 team began to support a driver from the Academy and adopt their colors on the car. This new agreement ensures that this collaboration will continue for several more years, and will expand with the arrival of Cadillac, which will join the Formula 1 grid in 2026 and the F1 Academy program from 2027.

Upon confirming the renewal, F1 Academy also announced an update to its participation rules. Starting in 2027, drivers who have already competed in two seasons will be able to obtain an exemption to race a third year, as part of what the organizers call a “personalized approach to nurturing talent.” This provision will only apply to drivers who demonstrate clear potential for continued growth.

The long-term commitment of support from the current 10 Formula 1 teams, and the incorporation of Cadillac starting in 2027, sends a strong message about the future of the F1 Academy.

The F1 Academy, founded in 2023, was created to establish a clearer path for women in motorsport and expand participation at the grassroots level. After running its debut season as an independent series, the championship joined the Formula 1 support program in 2024, competing alongside the Grand Prix around the world. The 2025 season heads to the final in Las Vegas (November 20-22), with Mercedes-backed Doriane Pin leading Ferrari-supported Maya Weug by nine points before the final round. The current 2024 champion, Abbi Pulling, who was supported by Alpine, moved up to the GB3 Championship this year, a testament to the Academy’s growing success as a launchpad for female drivers.
