Franco Colapinto Replaces Jack Doohan at Alpine for the Next Five Races

Alpine has confirmed that Franco Colapinto will replace Jack Doohan for the next five races, starting at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola.

The French team made the decision to “rotate” the driver in their second seat alongside Pierre Gasly.

Colapinto’s position will be reevaluated before the British Grand Prix in July, leaving the door open for a possible return of Doohan.

After reviewing the start-of-season races, we have made the decision to put Franco in the car alongside Pierre for the next five races.

Flavio Briatore, Alpine executive advisor

Briatore added that, given that the field is very even this year, and with a competitive car, the team sees the need to rotate its lineup.

The team also considers that the 2026 season will be important and that evaluating the drivers this season is the right thing to do to maximize their ambitions next year.

Colapinto impressed when he substituted for Logan Sargeant at Williams during nine races last year.

Williams loaned him to Alpine this year with the expectation that he would gain racing experience.

I will work hard with the team to prepare for the next race in Imola and the upcoming triple-header, which will undoubtedly be intense and a great challenge for everyone.

Franco Colapinto

Colapinto affirmed that he has kept in shape and is ready for the team’s race support test program, as well as in the simulator in Enstone.

Doohan struggled to stand out in his five races this year, suffering several accidents and struggling to match the qualifying or race results of his teammate Pierre Gasly.

I am very proud to have achieved my lifelong ambition of being a professional Formula One driver and I will always be grateful to the team for helping me achieve this dream.

Jack Doohan

Doohan added that he appreciates the team’s trust and commitment and that he will continue to give his best to help achieve the long-term goals.

On Tuesday, Alpine confirmed that team director Oliver Oakes has resigned with immediate effect, and Briatore will assume Oakes’s duties.

Oakes had said on Friday at the Miami Grand Prix that, at that moment, the plan was to keep Doohan alongside Gasly for the next round in Imola.
