Jamie Chadwick: Driving Female Access to Motorsports

Jamie Chadwick, multiple W Series champion, is optimistic about the growing openness of opportunities in the world of motorsport for women, both on and off the track. Chadwick is set to compete this weekend at Silverstone, UK, as part of the European Le Mans Series. This event marks the series’ return to Silverstone after six years. In addition to the competition, special activities will be held, including a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) workshop for girls from local primary schools at the Silverstone Museum. They will also be able to try out the Kart Silverstone facilities, which are scheduled to open this year. Chadwick, 27, will participate in the first practice session, allowing attendees to observe her in action during the penultimate round of the ELMC. The driver, who recently expanded her women’s karting series to a junior category, hopes these events will inspire the next generation of drivers and engineers.

When I was the only girl among hundreds of boys at my local karting track, it wasn’t the most welcoming environment at first, but that’s changing now.

Chadwick highlights the significant increase in interest and participation in her events, including her karting series in the UK. The main goal is to broaden the public’s perception of motorsport and showcase the diversity of opportunities available. More than 450 girls have participated in the Jamie Chadwick Series events. In 2024, Daytona experienced a 400% increase in female participation in casual sessions on its outdoor karting tracks. Chadwick emphasizes the positive evolution that the industry is experiencing, with a greater female presence in various roles. This is transforming the culture of the sport and attracting a more diverse audience. The main focus is to demonstrate the multiple opportunities that motorsports offer, beyond track driving. The aim is to highlight the variety of roles and exciting elements that make up this sport, giving young people the chance to explore these options.
