Aston Martin has officially confirmed the incorporation of Enrico Cardile, who joins the team from Ferrari as technical director of its Formula 1 team. Cardile, who left his position as technical director of Ferrari in mid-2024, had agreed to join Aston Martin. However, both teams were embroiled in a dispute over the start date of the Italian engineer. The arrival of Cardile is part of the ambitious hiring drive spearheaded by Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll, with the aim of turning the team into a championship contender from 2026. These additions include figures such as Adrian Newey, a design legend in F1, and Andy Cowell, former Mercedes engine guru. At the beginning of this year, Ferrari obtained a court order preventing Cardile from working with Aston Martin until the end of his “gardening leave” period. The court determined that Cardile could not start working until July 18th.

The Italian team stated at the time that the court determined that “our former employee was already violating the non-compete agreement with Ferrari, whose purpose was precisely to prevent other F1 teams from gaining an unjustified competitive advantage by hiring Cardile before allowed, causing irreparable damage to Ferrari”.

Cardile Joins Aston Martin: End to Legal Dispute with Ferrari
Enrico Cardile ha finalizado su periodo de “gardening leave” y ha comenzado a trabajar oficialmente en Aston Martin.
Aston Martin has confirmed that Cardile is already in office. In a statement, the team expressed: “We are pleased that a solution has been found and that Enrico can move forward with the team as we look towards 2026 and beyond as technical director, leading our design and technical functions at the AMR Technology Campus.” The arrival of Cardile promises to bring a new dimension to the Aston Martin team in the new era of F1, which will come into effect next season. This new stage includes regulations that require the creation of completely new cars and engines, promising to reconfigure the competitive order. It is worth noting the incorporation of Newey, who began his journey at the beginning of the year as a technical managing partner. Cardile will report to the team principal and group CEO, Cowell. Stroll has previously described the trio of Newey, Cowell and Cardile as a “formidable leadership team”. Aston Martin’s investment includes a new, modern F1 facility located opposite the entrance to the Silverstone circuit, home of the British Grand Prix. The team will also enter the new cycle of regulations with an exclusive supply of Honda engines, after years of using Mercedes power units. Honda will end its partnership with Red Bull at the end of 2025.
