Enrico Cardile Joins Aston Martin as Technical Director

Aston Martin has officially confirmed the incorporation of Enrico Cardile as technical director of its Formula 1 team. The Italian engineer, coming from Ferrari, joins the team after an agreement that ended a dispute over his start date. Cardile left his position as technical director at Ferrari in mid-2024 to join Aston Martin. Cardile’s arrival is part of an Aston Martin strategy led by Lawrence Stroll, the team owner, to compete for the championship starting in 2026. The incorporation of Cardile joins the signings of figures such as Adrian Newey, a design legend in F1, and Andy Cowell, a motor expert from Mercedes. Initially, Ferrari obtained a court order that prevented Cardile from working with Aston Martin until his “gardening leave” period ended.

The Italian team stated that the court determined that “our former employee was already violating the non-compete agreement with Ferrari, whose purpose was precisely to prevent other F1 teams from gaining an unjustified competitive advantage by hiring Cardile before allowed, causing irreparable damage to Ferrari”.

Ferrari Statement
Enrico Cardile's gardening leave has come to an end, and he has officially started work at Aston Martin.
Aston Martin issued a statement confirming Cardile’s start in his new role. The team expressed their satisfaction at having resolved the situation and highlighted Cardile’s role as technical director, leading design and technical functions at the AMR Technology Campus. The arrival of Cardile marks an important milestone for Aston Martin, which is preparing for the new era of F1 starting next season. This new era implies significant changes in cars and engines, promising a reconfiguration of the competitive order. Cardile will report directly to the team principal and Group CEO, Andy Cowell. Stroll has described this leadership group, composed of Newey, Cowell and Cardile, as a “formidable team”. Aston Martin, in addition to the incorporation of Cardile, has invested in a new and modern F1 facility located in front of the Silverstone circuit. The team will also start the new cycle of regulations with an exclusive supply of Honda engines, after years using Mercedes power units. Honda will end its partnership with Red Bull at the end of 2025.
