Flavio Briatore, a key figure in Fernando Alonso’s career, has described the Asturian driver as “a Rottweiler” who would be fighting for the championship if he were driving for McLaren or Red Bull this year. The relationship between Alonso and Briatore, who led the Alpine F1 team, dates back to the beginnings of the Spanish driver in Formula 1. Alonso, who will turn 45 next year, plans to compete with Aston Martin until 2026. The British team, known for its investment, incorporated designer Adrian Newey this year, with the aim of winning titles under the new regulations that will come into effect next season.

Of course, I expect it. I expect it.

Briatore expressed his hope that Alonso can become a winner again in F1 with Aston Martin.

Briatore also commented that if Aston Martin had a competitive car, Alonso would be in the fight. Alonso, with two F1 world championships to his name (2005 and 2006, under Briatore’s direction at Renault), hasn’t achieved another victory since 2013, despite being considered one of the most complete drivers of the modern era. Briatore praised Alonso’s performance at Aston Martin, suggesting that he can return to his best form if the car is competitive next year.

The guy keeps the team together, makes everyone work together. And the demonstration is now also at Aston Martin, you know that. The car is not competitive.

Briatore highlighted Alonso’s importance as a teammate and his ability to maintain cohesion within the team. Alonso’s future beyond 2026 is uncertain. The two-time world champion has a contract until the end of next season and has hinted that he could retire if he has another full season without a competitive car. According to reports from the beginning of this year, Lawrence Stroll, head of Aston Martin and father of Alonso’s teammate, Lance Stroll, has long-term aspirations to bring four-time world champion Max Verstappen to the team in the future.
