Oliver Bearman Criticizes the Las Vegas Circuit: “The Least Enjoyable”

Formula 1 rookie Oliver Bearman expressed strong criticism of the Las Vegas Grand Prix after his first experience on the circuit. Bearman called it the “least enjoyable” street circuit he has competed on. The Haas driver, one of the rookies who experienced the circuit, which incorporates the city’s famous Strip, during Thursday’s two practice sessions, was surprised by the driving conditions in the cold night.

This is the least enjoyable street circuit I have driven.

Bearman explained that, unlike other street circuits that are usually fun, this one had very little grip, which, added to the proximity of the walls, was dangerous. Despite acknowledging the excitement of running on the Las Vegas Strip, Bearman didn’t find many positive aspects in the circuit. Light rain also complicated things for most of the drivers on Thursday.

Honestly, in the first laps of FP1, I was surprised by how little grip there was. It’s dangerous out there.

The second practice session on Thursday night was delayed due to a loose manhole cover, an incident similar to the one that affected the inaugural event in 2023, when a cover ripped off Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari in the first minutes of the first session. The Las Vegas race is unique on the calendar, as it is the only event where Formula 1 is the host and promoter, rather than a host charging a fee to an independent race promoter for the event. The sport has invested heavily in the event, which has included specifically built facilities that make up the pit and paddock complex.
