Lewis Hamilton’s father, Anthony, will take on an official role at the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body of Formula 1. This comes after he advised FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem on the development of young drivers.
The news, which has generated great expectation, was confirmed by a FIA spokesperson during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
The FIA’s “Young Driver Development Pathway” initiative, focused on grassroots development and the protection of young drivers from unethical agents or managers, will be officially presented at the FIA conference in Macao in June.
It is anticipated that Ben Sulayem will seek a second four-year term in December. In this context, Carlos Sainz, a renowned rally champion, is considering running for the presidency.
Any candidate, and more could emerge, would need to present themselves with a list of nominated vice presidents, including two from Europe and one from each of the other five regions.

Anthony Hamilton’s relationship with Ben Sulayem might suggest he would not support an alternative candidate.
It is important to note that Lewis Hamilton, seven-time world champion and now at Ferrari after leaving Mercedes in January, has had a complicated relationship with Ben Sulayem. However, Anthony Hamilton has not been part of his son’s management team for several years.
