Alonso Returns to the Cockpit in Hungary After Injury

Budapest, Hungary – Fernando Alonso will get back behind the wheel of his Aston Martin for the second practice session of this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix. The 44-year-old Spanish driver had chosen not to participate in the first session due to a back injury. Alonso has been dealing with a muscle injury in his back since last week’s Belgian Grand Prix. His participation in the Hungarian Grand Prix was in doubt on Friday when he withdrew from FP1, being replaced by reserve driver Felipe Drugovich. However, before the second practice session, Aston Martin issued a statement confirming Alonso’s return to the cockpit.

“Fernando Alonso will be back in the AMR25 for FP2 this afternoon,” the statement indicated.

The team explained that Alonso decided not to participate in the first practice session to limit time in the car, while managing the muscle injury in his back. After receiving additional treatment and being medically cleared by the FIA, Alonso will join Lance Stroll in the AMR25. Drugovich completed an intense program in FP1 alongside Stroll, gathering important data while the team continues to evaluate the recent car updates. Drugovich finished the first practice in 16th position, while his teammate, Stroll, was in tenth place. Alonso is currently in 15th place in the drivers’ standings with 16 points so far this season.
