Virat Kohli Rejects the “Most Non-Australian Australian” Label

The renowned cricketer, Virat Kohli, has rejected the label of being the “most Australian non-Australian.” Instead, he prefers to identify as a representative of a “new India” that faces challenges with courage.

The reaction towards Kohli on his current tour of Australia has been notable, with praise from former players, media, and cricket personalities, who highlight the impact his absence will have on the upcoming matches.

“Kohli is the most Australian non-Australian cricketer of all time.”

Kohli, however, feels comfortable being himself. “I have always been myself,” Kohli said. “My personality and character reflect the new India. For me, that’s how I see it. It’s not about a comparison with the Australian mentality.”

The player emphasized the Indian team’s determination to face challenges with optimism and positivity. Kohli also acknowledged the affection that Australia shows towards those who excel in their territory.

Regarding the anticipation and expectation that his presence generates, Kohli commented: “When you perform well here, you earn the respect of the public. The same goes for Jasprit Bumrah. Last time he played very well here. Obviously, there will be anticipation and excitement to see him bowl. The same goes for me, I have been coming here for many years.”

For Kohli, the most important thing is for the general public to see India perform as a team, something that was a highlight in the last tour. “All external things are not under our control. That’s great for the publicity of the series, but the focus really and simply remains on how well we can perform as a team here.”

The Indian team, knowing Kohli, is ready for the player to take all the attention. Ajinkya Rahane, who will assume leadership when Kohli leaves, has a different personality, but Kohli promises similar intensity.

“We’ve had a lot of understanding and mutual respect over the years,” Kohli said of his vice-captain. “We’ve had great partnerships batting together, based on trust and understanding of what’s needed for the team. Jinks has done a tremendous job in the two practice matches. He seems very calm and knows our team’s strengths and how we need to do things.”

Kohli also highlighted that the team’s playing style is a collective effort of the entire team, a shared culture. “I am sure he will do a tremendous job in my absence, but the focus remains that, until I am here, I will provide captaincy, leadership and performance as a player as best as I can, and then I am pretty sure Jinks will do a tremendous job. I feel it’s his time to really step up and perform strongly as an individual and also as a captain.”
