Shaw, under pressure after Shubman Gill’s good performance in the practice matches, was finally selected. Although his scores in the practice games were not high, continuity in the lineup seems to have been a key factor.Likewise, Ashwin, the starting spinner, kept his place, especially in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja due to injury. The decision not to play Ashwin in the past generated criticism.
As for the wicketkeeper, India opted for Saha, preferring him to Pant, who has been favored in Tests outside of Asia. The team management considers Saha’s skills to be superior.
Yadav was selected as the third fast bowler, replacing the injured Ishant Sharma, thanks to his experience and good performance in the practice matches.
