Wriddhiman Saha, R Ashwin, and Prithvi Shaw have been selected to represent India in the next Test in Adelaide. Umesh Yadav will complete the trio of fast bowlers.
The final decision on the lineup was made two days before the match, after considering several key options. The doubts revolved around Shaw’s continuity, the inclusion of a spinner, and the choice of wicketkeeper.
Shaw, despite the pressure, kept his place as opener. Although Shubman Gill performed better in the practice matches, Shaw was backed for his experience and potential.
Ashwin, the starting spinner, also kept his place, especially given the absence of Ravindra Jadeja due to injury. The decision not to include Ashwin in the past was criticized, so this time experience was chosen.
Regarding the wicketkeeper, India opted for Saha instead of Pant. The team management believes that Saha’s skills are more suitable for the game conditions with the pink ball.
Yadav, with experience touring Australia, was selected as the third fast bowler, replacing the injured Ishant Sharma.India’s Line-up: Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), R Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah.
