India Defines its Lineup for the Adelaide Test
Wriddhiman Saha, R Ashwin, and Prithvi Shaw were selected to represent India in the Adelaide Test. Umesh Yadav will complete the trio of fast bowlers. The team cleared up doubts about the starting lineup for the anticipated match. The decision to keep Shaw in the starting lineup was a topic of debate. Shubman Gill performed superiorly in the two practice matches, impressing prominent figures. However, Shaw, as a starting opener, had standout moments, although some of his shots were concerning. The preference for continuity at the top of the batting order influenced the decision.
Although playing Ashwin is reasonable, it could have been justified not including a spinner in the opening match of the series. In day Tests in Australia, spinners have averaged 49, despite Lyon’s average of 25 in these matches. Lyon’s success suggests that world-class spinners have the opportunity to correct these statistics.
As for the wicketkeeper, India left out Pant, preferring Saha in Tests outside Asia. The team seems to have decided that the pink ball will demand a more established wicketkeeper. Yadav was the favorite to be India’s third fast bowler, replacing the injured Ishant Sharma. He has Test experience and also impressed in the only practice match he played.India’s Line-up: 1 Mayank Agarwal, 2 Prithvi Shaw, 3 Cheteshwar Pujara, 4 Virat Kohli (c), 5 Ajinkya Rahane, 6 Hanuma Vihari, 7 Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 8 R Ashwin, 9 Umesh Yadav, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Jasprit Bumrah
