Wriddhiman Saha, R Ashwin, and Prithvi Shaw will represent India in the next Test in Adelaide. Umesh Yadav completes the trio of fast bowlers. These were the main questions India asked itself before the expected encounter.
The main question revolved around whether to maintain confidence in the talented Shaw, the inclusion of a spinner, and the choice of wicketkeeper.
Finally, the doubts were cleared when the starting lineup was announced.
Shaw, following Shubman Gill’s outstanding performances in the practice matches, was retained in the starting eleven. Despite the pressure, Shaw, who has demonstrated his potential in the past, was supported by the continuity the team sought.
Regarding the spinner, and in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja due to injury, Ashwin kept his place. The last time India chose not to include Ashwin in a series-opening match was on the Australia tour in 2014-15.Regarding the wicketkeeper, India opted for Saha instead of Pant. The decision was based on Saha’s superior skills as a wicketkeeper, especially in conditions where the pink ball might require a more experienced guardian.
Yadav is emerging as the third fast bowler, replacing the injured Ishant Sharma. His experience and performance in the only practice match he played positioned him favorably.
