Cameron Green: The Young Marvel Who Will Debut with Australia

The 21-year-old all-rounder from Western Australia, Cameron Green, is set to debut for Australia at the Adelaide Oval. His anticipated debut has generated great expectation in the world of sport.

Outstanding Cricket Career

In first-class cricket, Green has shown exceptional performance. With five centuries in 21 matches, including a score of 197, his batting average is 55.04. In a match against Queensland at the Gabba in November 2019, he demonstrated his potential with the bat, scoring 87 and 121 not out. Regarding bowling, he averages 21.72 with 33 wickets, including 5 for 24 in his debut against Tasmania. Although his career in limited-format matches does not stand out as much, his ODI debut has generated interest.

Great Expectations

Greg Chappell has called him “the best since Ricky Ponting.” In a simulation of Test and T20I matches on the same day, Chappell included him in the Test team at number 6.

For me, Cameron Green is the next Australian cricket superstar. He is a genuine prospect with the bat and ball, but I think his future is as a batsman who can offer some quality overs.

Greg Chappell
Chappell suggests that Green could occupy the number 4 position in the long term.

Overcoming the fear of injury

A worrying moment was when he received a blow to the head from a Jasprit Bumrah delivery. Fortunately, he did not suffer major damage and it seems he will be able to debut.

The all-terrain vehicle dreamed of by Australia?

Green has been limited in his bowling due to a stress fracture in his back that he suffered last year. He has been working on his technique with WA bowling coach, Matt Mason, and has been limited to four-over spells. This season, he has not bowled more than eight overs in a match day, but he has demonstrated his ability to take wickets. Tim Paine suggested that bowling restrictions could be relaxed.

An unexpected debut?

In a way, yes. Warner and Pucovksi’s injuries have led Australia to reorganize the batting order, which has opened a gap at number 6. Green deserves this opportunity, and the national selectors have recognized his worth just for his batting.
