Cameron Green: The New Star of Australian Cricket Debuts in Adelaide

The 21-year-old all-rounder, Cameron Green, originally from Western Australia, is set to make his debut for Australia at the Adelaide Oval. His first appearance is one of the most anticipated in recent times.

Highlighted Career

In first-class cricket, Green has demonstrated exceptional performance. He has accumulated five centuries in 21 matches, including a career-high of 197 runs at the start of this season against New South Wales. His batting average is 55.04. He recently played against the Indians, showing his worth with the bat and ball. In November 2019, in a match against Queensland at the Gabba, he demonstrated his ability by batting, scoring 87 and 121 runs not out, playing in positions 8 and 9. With the ball, his average is 21.72 for his 33 wickets, including 5 for 24 in his first-class debut against Tasmania, where he also achieved his best mark of 6 for 30 in 2018. Although his career in white-ball formats doesn’t stand out as much, he debuted in ODIs a few weeks ago.

Great Expectations

Greg Chappell has called him the “best since Ricky Ponting” in recent interviews.

Greg Chappell
Chappell selected him at number 6 in the test team, highlighting his talent with both bat and ball. He predicts that Green could become something very special.

Concern about Injury

A worrying moment was when Green was hit in the head by a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah at the SCG. He was taken off the field with concussion and underwent tests that ruled out fractures. Fortunately, the blow did not cause major damage, and it seems he will comply with the protocols to be able to debut.

The Dream Off-Roader?

While promising, caution is key. Green has had restrictions on his bowling due to a stress fracture in his back. He has worked on his action with WA bowling coach Matt Mason and has been limited to four-over spells. However, he has shown his ability to take wickets, and Tim Paine suggests that the bowling restrictions could be relaxed.

Anticipated Debut

In a way, yes. Warner and Pucovksi’s injuries have caused changes in the Australian batting order, opening a gap at number 6. National selector Trevor Hohns has indicated that Green is worthy of selection based on his batting alone.
