Anthony Yarde Seeks World Glory in His Third Attempt

Anthony Yarde is preparing for his third opportunity to be crowned world light heavyweight champion. After two previous attempts, Yarde assures that this time will be different. The English boxer, with a record of 27 wins and 3 losses (24 by KO), will face American David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) for the World Boxing Council (WBC) title in Saudi Arabia. Yarde has rebuilt his career after his losses to Artur Beterbiev and Sergey Kovalev in 2023 and 2019, respectively. Facing Benavidez, Yarde is again the underdog, but he trusts in his evolution since those falls. The 34-year-old pugilist, originally from East London, was stopped in eight rounds by Beterbiev, while against Kovalev he reached the eleventh round.

“I’m tired of being the one who puts on great fights, but loses. I need to win this one and break the odds,” Yarde declared.

Yarde attributes his improvement to the experience gained. He believes that, if he were to face Beterbiev again, the result would be different. Furthermore, he considers that his fight against Beterbiev influenced Dmitry Bivol’s decision to seek a match with the same Beterbiev, as Yarde believes he exposed some weaknesses in his opponent.

In his last fight, Benavidez outboxed David Morrell by unanimous decision, recovering from a knockdown. Yarde acknowledges that Benavidez doesn’t have the same knockout power as Beterbiev or Kovalev, but respects his mentality and willingness to fight anyone. Since his defeat to Beterbiev, Yarde has won four fights, the most recent in April, where he defeated Lyndon Arthur by unanimous decision in a trilogy.

“After everything I’ve been through in life, this fight could change my life,” Yarde stated.
