World Boxing Expands its Domain: Over 100 National Federations Join

World Boxing, the new boxing entity, continues its expansion. Following the approval of 17 new applications by its executive board last Thursday, the organization now has 106 affiliated national federations.

Founded in 2023, in response to concerns about the management of the International Boxing Association (IBA), World Boxing received provisional recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in February. The entity will be in charge of organizing boxing competitions at the 2028 Olympic Games.

In the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, boxing was directly managed by the IOC, after the IBA lost its recognition due to its inability to implement reforms in its governance and finances.

The inclusion of boxing in the program of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games was confirmed in March, following a unanimous vote by the IOC, dispelling doubts about the Olympic future of this sport.

Among the national federations that have recently joined World Boxing are Cuba and Ireland, two of the most successful countries in Olympic boxing, along with Spain, Mexico, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.

“This means that (with the exception of Russia and the Soviet Union) World Boxing membership now includes the 10 most successful countries of all time in Olympic boxing and 10 of the 11 countries with the most medals from the Paris 2024 Games,” World Boxing stated in a statement.
