Olympic Boxing Champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, Provisionally Suspended for Doping
The International Testing Agency (ITA) has announced the provisional suspension of the Olympic heavyweight champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, after testing positive for a prohibited substance. The 26-year-old Uzbek boxer was subjected to an out-of-competition doping control on June 11, in which methasterone was detected. This is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid, known for promoting accelerated muscle growth, as well as increased strength and power. The ITA also explained that, if the analysis of sample B is requested and the results of sample A are confirmed, the case will be considered a confirmed violation of anti-doping rules. Likewise, if the analysis of sample B is not requested, the case will also be treated as a confirmed violation. The agency added that the athlete will have the opportunity to present their explanations about the results. Mullojonov also won a bronze medal in the heavyweight event at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships and a super heavyweight gold medal at the 2022 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships.“The athlete has been informed of the case and has the right to request the analysis of the B sample,” the ITA stated in a statement issued on Tuesday.
