Oleksandr Usyk’s team has made it clear that the boxer is in no rush to choose his next opponent, as he is in the process of recovering from an injury. They have emphasized that Usyk “has earned the right to choose his own future”. Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) achieved an impressive victory over Daniel Dubois last month at Wembley Stadium, where he knocked him out in the fifth round. With this victory, he was crowned heavyweight champion for the second time.
Following his victory, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) ordered Usyk to face Joseph Parker, who holds the interim title of the organization. He was given 30 days, starting July 22, to negotiate this fight, after which financial offers would be opened.
Usyk’s team requested an extension from the WBO to make a decision. Initially, they asked for an additional 90 days, but the organization granted them 30 more days.
Lapin also highlighted Usyk’s achievements, who in the last year and a half has achieved a historic feat by becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion for the second time, which required great physical and mental effort, as well as sacrifices. Lapin added that the champion has earned the right to recover from the effects of a demanding training regimen and injuries, which are often not visible. In addition, he emphasized the importance of Usyk resting and spending time with his family. Finally, Lapin concluded that Usyk has earned the right to choose his own future and to take the time needed to make that decision.Throughout his professional career, both Oleksandr Usyk and our entire team have shown respect for all opponents and for the rules of professional boxing.
