Oleksandr Usyk, after his recent victory, is taking some time to decide his next step in boxing. His team has made it clear that there is no rush in choosing the next opponent, prioritizing the champion’s recovery and rest. Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) secured a resounding victory over Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last month, securing his heavyweight champion title for the second time. The World Boxing Organization (WBO) requested Usyk to face interim champion Joseph Parker, giving him a deadline to negotiate before considering a purse bid. Usyk’s team requested an extension from the organization, which was granted.

Serhii Lapin, a childhood friend and director of Usyk’s team, stated that they will not rush into making decisions about the boxer’s future.

Throughout his professional career, both Oleksandr Usyk and our entire team have shown respect for all potential opponents and for the rules governing professional boxing.

Lapin highlighted the physical and mental effort involved in being a champion, and the importance of recovery. The team believes that Usyk has earned the right to choose his future and take the time needed to decide. In 2024, Usyk defeated Tyson Fury twice before his rematch with Dubois.
