Oleksandr Usyk, after his recent victory, is in a period of recovery and reflection on his future in boxing. His team has made it clear that there is no rush in choosing his next opponent, emphasizing that the champion has earned the right to make his own decisions.
Usyk, with an impressive record of 24-0 and 15 knockouts, achieved a resounding victory over Daniel Dubois in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium. This triumph solidified him as the undisputed heavyweight champion for the second time.
After the victory, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) ordered Usyk to face Joseph Parker, its interim champion, giving him a deadline to negotiate. Usyk’s team requested an extension, which was granted.
Lapin also mentioned the need for Usyk to recover from the demands of training and injuries, as well as taking time to rest and be with his family. He stressed that Usyk has earned the right to choose his own path and take the time needed to make that decision. In 2024, Usyk defeated Tyson Fury twice before the rematch with Dubois.Usyk has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion on two occasions. That demanded tremendous physical and mental effort, and great sacrifice.
