Usyk Challenges Jake Paul: “I’ll Wait for You in the Cage”
The undisputed heavyweight world champion, Oleksandr Usyk, has issued a direct challenge to Jake Paul, warning him that he will be “waiting for him in the cage” once the boxer-turned-youtuber decides to face him after his retirement. Paul, who defeated former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson on points in an eight-round fight last year and then defeated Julio César Chávez Jr. in June, is scheduled to face current WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in an exhibition match in November, which will be broadcast on Netflix. The 28-year-old influencer recently shared his ambitious future plans on social media, which include becoming a world boxing champion and defeating Usyk, as well as winning an Oscar, “fighting on the moon,” and starting a presidential campaign. Following his victory over Daniel Dubois in July, Usyk met Paul in the ring. Usyk, 38, responded to Paul’s ambitious five-year plan with a forceful message.Usyk, who continues to recover from a back problem, is expected to defend his title against Joseph Parker and Britain’s Fabio Wardley, who will face each other on October 25 at the O2 Arena in London. Usyk’s response to Paul was followed by a training video, in which the Ukrainian boxer highlighted his dedication to boxing. Usyk declared: “I don’t have motivation, I have discipline. That’s why I am a champion. I believe this with all my heart. This carries me through the ring, through life, through every challenge. That’s why I stand. Take it with you.”Good plan, Jake Paul, but I’m not here for fifth place, only first. Soon, I’ll close the book on boxing, and after that, I’ll be waiting for you in the cage. Let’s see if you have the guts or just hunger for publicity.
