Claressa Shields Dominates Lani Daniels and Retains Her Undisputed Title

Claressa Shields demonstrated her supremacy in women’s boxing by successfully defending her undisputed middleweight crown, achieving a unanimous decision victory against the tough Lani Daniels at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The judges scored the fight 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91 in favor of Shields, who exhibited an exceptional performance.

She fought hard, and I connected with Lani with strong blows. I wore her down on the body and on the head. I varied my attacks. Lani is very, very tough, and I knew she would be, just by watching her fights, I could tell she worked on her speed.

This victory marks Shields’ second fight (17-0, 3 KOs) in a calendar year since 2022. The boxer has expressed her desire to face big challenges in her career, including a possible match against former champion Laila Ali and a fight against welterweight champion Mikaela Mayer, if there is genuine interest.

I’m going to stay at heavyweight and I hope to have big fights with Franchon Crews and Che Kenneally. I want to fight Laila Ali. We offered 15 million dollars for the fight and we still haven’t had a response.

In February, Shields made history by becoming the first boxer, male or female, to achieve undisputed status in three weight divisions, after defeating Danielle Perkins by unanimous decision in heavyweight in her hometown, Flint, Michigan. Daniels, the current IBF light heavyweight champion, was coming off a seven-fight winning streak before her loss to Shields. Despite the loss, Daniels put up a good fight in the final rounds.

I knew she just wanted to survive the rounds, but she tried to react in the eighth or ninth, but I still feel like I won every round and even outboxed her with my back against the ropes.

Rapper Rick Ross accompanied Shields in her entrance to the ring in front of a crowd of 15,369 spectators. In the first rounds, Shields sought to connect forceful blows, while Daniels moved around the ring. There were even some moments of play, with Shields inciting her to fight. Shields took control in the fifth round, wearing down Daniels with body shots. The boxer also demonstrated her jab, connecting clean punches in rounds 6 and 7. In the eighth, ninth, and tenth rounds, Daniels achieved some success, but the “Queen of Boxing” and self-proclaimed “GWOAT” (“Greatest Woman of All Time”) withstood Daniels’ best punches while landing her own blows, securing the victory and seeking new challenges.

These girls are too easy to beat. People think it’s all about knockouts, but I go in and win 10 rounds easily. All these girls are talking about me being at 175 now and being a heavyweight champion, but when I was at 154 nobody wanted to fight me. When I was at 160, I cleaned out the division.

Tony Harrison Returns with Victory

In the co-main event, WBC super welterweight ex-champion Tony Harrison also made his return to the ring, obtaining a unanimous decision victory over Edward Diaz. Harrison (30-4-1, 21 KOs), who hadn’t fought since 2023, when he suffered a TKO loss to Tim Tszyu, overcame Diaz (15-7, 12 KOs) to secure the victory in the tenth round. Harrison, a Detroit native, wore the Lions uniform to represent his hometown, but survived a fall in the ninth round, after being hit by a strong right hand from Diaz.

It’s boxing. When I got caught, it wasn’t even a punch that hurt me. I was really already off balance. It was like a flash, and I should have done five push-ups because I owed it at that moment. It wasn’t anything that hurt me or anything, but I owed it for not being disciplined.
