The reigning WBA junior lightweight champion, Lamont Roach Jr., will move up to 140 pounds to face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz for the WBC interim super lightweight title on December 6 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. The announcement was made by Premier Boxing Champions.

The fight will be the main event of a PBC pay-per-view on Prime Video.

Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) changed course after a proposed rematch in August with Gervonta “Tank” Davis fell through, and his rival went on to face Jake Paul in an exhibition in November. Roach had a controversial majority draw against Davis in March.

Instead of waiting for the result of the Paul-Davis fight, Roach will seek to become interim champion at 140 pounds, making this his third consecutive fight competing in a different weight class.

Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) lost by a close decision to Davis in December 2021. Since then, he has had a record of 6-1, winning the vacant WBC super lightweight title in his last fight, when he defeated Omar Salcido in July.

Cruz, fighting from Mexico City, and his team see this fight as an opportunity to become the next big star in the country, calling it “the most important fight of his career”.
