Lamont Roach Jr. will face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz for the WBC interim super lightweight title
The current WBA super featherweight world champion, Lamont Roach Jr., will move up to the 140-pound division to face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz for the WBC interim super lightweight title on December 6 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. The event, which promises to be a high-caliber spectacle, will be broadcast on pay-per-view via Prime Video. Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) took this direction after the proposed rematch for August against Gervonta “Tank” Davis was canceled. In March, Roach and Davis starred in a fight that ended in a controversial majority draw. Instead of waiting for the outcome of the Davis vs. Jake Paul matchup, Roach will seek to become interim champion at 140 pounds, marking his third consecutive fight in a different weight class. Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs), who suffered a close defeat against Davis in December 2021, has maintained a 6-1 record since then. In his last fight, Cruz obtained the vacant WBC super lightweight title by defeating Omar Salcido on points in July. The Cruz team, originally from Mexico City, sees this fight as an opportunity to establish themselves as the next big star of Mexican boxing, considering it the “most important fight of their career.”The Cruz team hopes this fight will propel Cruz to the top of the world boxing. This is the most important moment Isaac Cruz has had in his career. Mexico is looking for a new face of boxing after Canelo lost to Crawford. They are looking for a world champion and a new star to fight on the weekends of Mexican Independence Day and Cinco de Mayo.
