Dustin Poirier, a prominent figure in the world of mixed martial arts, has made it clear that he has no plans to return to the octagon. However, an opportunity in boxing could change his plans, specifically if it’s a match against Nate Diaz. Poirier, 36, announced his retirement from the UFC in July, after a final fight against Max Holloway in his home state of Louisiana. Although he has reiterated his intention not to fight again, an unexpected statement on social media on Monday has generated anticipation.

Zuffa Boxing, 12 rounds, me and Nathaniel, I would do it.

Poirier, known for his 30-10 record, and Diaz (21-13) were scheduled to face each other in the UFC in 2018 in New York, but the fight did not materialize. Both fighters blamed each other for the cancellation. Diaz, 40 years old, left the UFC in 2022 to explore other opportunities. He debuted in professional boxing against Jake Paul in 2023, losing by unanimous decision. In his last appearance, he defeated Jorge Masvidal in July 2024 in a boxing match. Poirier has stated that Diaz is a rival that remained pending in his career.

I’m retired, I’m done, but Nate is one who got away.
