Clear Rules for the Fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis

The details of the highly anticipated showdown between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis, scheduled for November 14th, were revealed. Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, was in charge of announcing the rules at a press conference held on Monday in New York. The fight will be a ten-round exhibition, with rounds lasting three minutes and a maximum weight of 195 pounds. The boxers will use 12-ounce gloves during the match. In comparison, boxers competing in the welterweight category (147 pounds) and under usually use 8-ounce gloves, a standard Davis is accustomed to. Paul, for his part, has used 10-ounce gloves in all his fights, which is usual in fights above the welterweight, with the exception of the exhibition against Mike Tyson last November, where both boxers used 14-ounce gloves.
Although the fight between Paul and Davis is an exhibition, which means the result will not affect their professional records, there will be three judges in the ring to score the bout, and a winner will be determined if the fight goes the distance. Last week, it was announced that the event was moved from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta to the Kaseya Center in Miami, after Most Valuable Promotions withdrew its application to host the fight in Georgia. Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), criticized the holding of the fight due to the weight disparity between the boxers and stated that the promoter was “promoting something they shouldn’t have promoted.” Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is the current WBA lightweight champion and weighed 133.8 pounds in his last fight, a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. He has never fought in a weight class above 140 pounds in his professional career. Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) currently competes at cruiserweight and weighed 199.4 pounds in his June victory over Julio César Chávez Jr. He has weighed up to 227.2 pounds for the fight against Tyson and up to 183.75 pounds for his February 2023 loss against Tommy Fury.
