In a press conference held on Monday in New York, Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, unveiled the rules for the highly anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis, scheduled for November 14th.
The match will be a 10-round exhibition, with three-minute rounds and a maximum weight of 195 pounds.
Boxers will use 12-ounce gloves during the fight.
In comparison, boxers competing at welterweight (147 pounds) and below use 8-ounce gloves, which Davis is accustomed to.
Paul has fought all his fights with 10-ounce gloves, which is usual for fights above welterweight, except for the exhibition against Mike Tyson last November, where both fighters used 14-ounce gloves.El combate de boxeo del 14 de noviembre entre Gervonta Davis y Jake Paul será una exhibición a 10 asaltos con un peso máximo de 195 libras y los luchadores usarán guantes de 12 onzas. Last week, it was announced that the fight was relocated from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta to the Kaseya Center in Miami after Most Valuable Promotions withdrew its application to host the event in Georgia.
Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), criticized the holding of the fight due to the weight disparity between the boxers and stated that the promoter was “promoting something that should not have been done.”
Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), current WBA lightweight champion, weighed 133.8 pounds for his last fight, a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. He has never fought in a weight class above 140 pounds in his professional career.
Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) currently competes at cruiserweight and weighed 199.4 pounds for his June victory over Julio César Chávez Jr. He has weighed as much as 227.2 pounds for the fight against Tyson and as little as 183.75 pounds for his February 2023 loss to Tommy Fury.
