The World Boxing Organization (WBO) ordered Usyk to defend his title against the interim champion, a position that Parker seemed to deserve after his recent victories. However, an injury to Usyk delayed the fight, leaving Parker in a situation of uncertainty. Parker, currently on a winning streak, has defeated opponents like Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang, and Martin Bakole, the latter by knockout in the second round. These successes have rekindled Parker’s hopes of becoming a two-time heavyweight champion.

Faced with inactivity, Parker has chosen to stay active and will now face the undefeated Fabio Wardley in London. A victory over Wardley would put him in an even more favorable position to fight Usyk. Parker acknowledges that, although the organizations can order fights, it is Usyk who has the real control.

If Parker defeats Wardley, Usyk could be forced to face him in the first part of 2026, as the options for fights with Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury seem unrealistic until later in the year. However, this fight carries a high risk. Parker finds himself in a crucial situation for his career, where a defeat could mean the end of his aspirations to become a two-time champion. Fortunately, Parker has recent experience against boxers with great punching power. On the other side of the ring, Wardley arrives with a knockout over Justis Huni, demonstrating his ability to win even when things aren’t going his way. Wardley also knocked out Frazer Clarke in their rematch in October 2024.

Wardley, after the fight with Huni, stated: “I don’t pretend to be Usyk… someone with all the skills. But one thing I know how to do is win.” This matchup promises to be an intriguing clash that could define Parker’s future in the heavyweight division.
