Parker, who was in line to face Oleksandr Usyk, chose to stay active while the situation with the undisputed champion was being defined. Usyk received an extension from the WBO due to an injury, with a new deadline to negotiate the fight. The New Zealand boxer is coming off a knockout victory over Martin Bakole in February. Wardley (19-0-1, 18 KOs), from Ipswich, is the WBA interim champion and has strong local support. The 30-year-old boxer comes into this fight after an impressive knockout victory over Australian Justis Huni in June. Parker, although he is from New Zealand, also has a following in the United Kingdom, where he has been training with Tyson Fury and coach Andy Lee.
