Pacquiao, Usyk, and “Bam” Rodriguez: Triumphs and Dominance in the Ring
Manny Pacquiao, at 46 years old, returned to the ring after four years of retirement and was close to becoming a welterweight champion again, but the fight ended in a controversial majority draw against WBC champion Mario Barrios. Despite not being as explosive as before, Pacquiao proved to be in great shape. His performance places him in sixth place in the welterweight rankings, while Barrios remains in third place. On the same weekend, Usyk consolidated his number one position in the heavyweight division with a knockout in the fifth round over Daniel Dubois, in a rematch of their 2023 encounter. Usyk delivered a dominant performance, giving Dubois no respite before ending the fight in the fifth round. Usyk widens the gap between himself and the rest of the heavyweight division, while Dubois remains in third place.
“Bam” Rodriguez, possibly the most underrated pound-for-pound boxer, demolished another opponent, achieving a technical knockout in the tenth round over Phumelele Cafu and unifying the junior super flyweight titles. It’s impressive that Rodriguez, at only 25 years old, is performing at this level before entering his prime. In other notable fights, Sebastian Fundora forced Tim Tszyu to retire after the seventh round, retaining the WBC super welterweight title. With this victory, Fundora remains in third place. Tszyu, despite suffering another defeat, remains in sixth place. Brandon Figueroa drops to seventh place in the featherweight division, despite obtaining a controversial decision over Joet Gonzalez. Diego Pacheco also maintains the number three position in the super middleweight ranking with his decision victory over Trevor McCumby. Boxing rankings by division highlight the best in the sport in each weight category. The rankings will change according to recent results and performances. Boxers who have announced their move to a different division will be ranked in that new division, if applicable, only once they fight in that category. Boxers who currently hold titles in two divisions may be ranked in both. Boxers who have not competed in the last 12 months, and who do not have a scheduled fight, will be removed from the rankings until they fight again. Any boxer who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to re-enter the rankings after their next fight.
