Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Erickson Lubin: Clash of Titans in Fort Worth

The boxing world is gearing up for a stellar showdown on November 8th, as Vergil Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 KOs) steps into the ring to defend his WBC interim super welterweight title against Erickson Lubin at the Dickies Center in Fort Worth, Texas. The news was confirmed by Golden Boy Promotions. This exciting match will be broadcast live globally via DAZN, promising a night full of action for fans. Ortiz, known for his punching power, returns to the ring after a decision victory over Israil Madrimov in February. The fighter will seek to continue his undefeated streak against a high-caliber opponent.

I always feel happy to be part of the fights that the fans want to see.

Although this was not the fight Ortiz originally had in mind. Previously, there was speculation about a match with WBO champion Xander Zayas, there were even exchanges on social media and a formal offer to his promoter, Top Rank. However, the negotiations did not come to fruition, which led Ortiz’s team to quickly secure a fight with Lubin. Rumors also surfaced about a possible fight between Ortiz and Jaron “Boots” Ennis in 2026, but Ortiz’s representation denied any agreement.

Golden Boy literally tried with every major opponent there was and nobody wanted to fight Vergil. Even His Excellency (Turki Alalshikh) tried by offering ‘Boots’ a life-changing amount of money and he said no for a tune-up fight. Vergil Ortiz is the most feared man in boxing. Credit to Lubin for doing what nobody else would.

Lubin (27-2, 19 KOs), currently ranked number 1 by the IBF in super welterweight, comes into this bout with a three-fight winning streak. His record includes a loss to current WBC champion Sebastian Fundora in April 2022. Lubin, 29, has also achieved victories over Jeison Rosario and Jesus Ramos. His other defeat was against Jermell Charlo in 2017, in a fight for the WBC title. Lubin will seek to surprise and obtain the most important victory of his career, on his way to becoming a world champion.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for. This fight is about redemption; I’m back for everything.
