Olympic Boxing Champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, Provisionally Suspended for Doping

The Olympic boxing champion in the heavyweight category, Lazizbek Mullojonov, has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance, according to the International Testing Agency (ITA).

The 26-year-old Uzbek boxer tested positive for metasterone, a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid linked to accelerated muscle growth, increased strength, and power. The sample was collected out-of-competition on June 11.

“The athlete has been notified of the case and has the right to request the analysis of the B sample,” ITA communicated in an official statement.

If the analysis of sample B is requested and this confirms the result of sample A, the case will be considered a confirmed violation of anti-doping rules, according to the ITA. In case the analysis of sample B is not requested, the case will also proceed as a confirmed violation of anti-doping rules.

“The athlete will have the opportunity to present their explanations about the result,” added the agency.

Mullojonov also won a bronze medal in the heavyweight event at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships and a super heavyweight gold medal at the 2022 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships.
