Olympic Boxing Champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, Provisionally Suspended for Doping
The International Testing Agency (ITA) has announced the provisional suspension of the Olympic heavyweight champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, after testing positive for a prohibited substance.
The 26-year-old Uzbek boxer underwent an out-of-competition doping control on June 11, where the presence of metasterone was detected.
Metasterone is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid known for promoting accelerated muscle growth, increased strength, and power.
The athlete has been informed of the case and has the right to request the analysis of the B sample.
The ITA reported that, if the analysis of sample B is requested and confirms the result of sample A, it will be considered a confirmed violation of anti-doping rules. If the analysis of sample B is not requested, the case will also proceed as a confirmed violation.
The organization also indicated that the athlete will have the opportunity to present their explanations regarding the results.
Mullojonov, in addition to his Olympic gold, won the bronze medal at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships and a super heavyweight gold medal at the 2022 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships.
