Olympic Boxing Champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, Provisionally Suspended for Doping

The Olympic heavyweight boxing champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance, according to the International Testing Agency (ITA).

The 26-year-old Uzbek boxer was subjected to an out-of-competition doping control on June 11, where the presence of metasterone was detected. This substance is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid, known for promoting rapid muscle growth, increased strength, and power.

“The athlete has been informed of the case and has the right to request analysis of the B sample,” ITA said in an official statement.

If the analysis of sample B is requested and confirms the result of sample A, the case will be considered a confirmed violation of anti-doping rules. In case the analysis of sample B is not requested, the case will also proceed as a confirmed violation of anti-doping rules.

The agency added that the athlete will have the opportunity to present his explanations about the result.

Mullojonov also won a bronze medal in the heavyweight event at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships and a super heavyweight gold medal at the 2022 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships.
