Preliminary Card for Canelo vs. Crawford Fight Takes Shape
The anticipated preliminary card for the undisputed super middleweight title fight between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford, scheduled for September 13th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, is taking shape.
The main event of the night will feature exciting fights, starting with the match between Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez.
Christian Mbilli (29-0, 24 KOs) will face Lester Martinez (19-0, 16 KOs) in a duel between two undefeated super middleweights, seeking a title opportunity. Mbilli, ranked number 2 in his division, achieved a first-round knockout against Maciej Sulecki in June, securing the WBC interim title at 168 pounds. For his part, Martinez, representing Guatemala, is coming off a knockout of Joeshon James in the fourth round in March, demonstrating his power by stopping six of his last seven opponents.
The co-main event will feature undefeated Irishman Callum Walsh (14-0, 11 KOs) in a 10-round super welterweight bout against Fernando Vargas Jr. (17-0, 15 KOs). Walsh, promoted by 360 Promotions, is mentored by UFC CEO Dana White and has been a constant figure on UFC Fight Pass during his career. Walsh is expected to be a key fighter for TKO Group’s Zuffa Boxing in its launch. He will have to overcome the son of former world champion Fernando Vargas, 28 years old. Vargas Jr. last competed in May, achieving a knockout in the fourth round against Gonzalo Coria.
In addition, a six-round lightweight bout between Saudi’s Mohammed Alakel (4-0) and John Ornelas (5-2) has been announced, which will be broadcast live on Netflix.
