A proposal has been made for Lauren Price to face American Mikaela Mayer in an anticipated fight for the undisputed women’s welterweight title next year. This was confirmed by promoter Ben Shalom to Alofoke Deportes. The clash between Price (9-0, 2 KOs), IBF, WBA and WBC champion, and Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs), holder of the WBO title, was expected to happen earlier this year, but ultimately did not materialize. Mayer moved up to super welterweight and conquered the WBC, WBO, and WBA belts after her victory over Mary Spencer in October. However, the American boxer has expressed her desire to face Price at 147 pounds for all the titles, and it is anticipated that the fight could materialize. Price aims to fight in Cardiff in February, in what will be his first fight in almost a year, before focusing on Mayer.

“We were offered the fight in July for [United States], but the economic amount was not considered appropriate by Lauren’s management for that fight, and I tend to agree with her,” Shalom stated.

“We have made an offer for Mayer to come and fight here, at the Royal Albert Hall.” So far, we have not received an accepted offer, but that has been a fight we have been trying to finalize and we are still working on it.” Mayer, 35, is a three-division world champion, highlighting her gold in the super featherweight division. She turned professional in 2017 after representing the United States at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Price, 31 years old, has been in the professional field for three years, after a successful amateur career. He won gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2019 World Championships.
