Jorge Masvidal Wins Legal Victory Worth Millions Against Fanmio
A Florida judge has ruled in favor of UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal, awarding him a judgment for breach of contract of more than $5 million in his lawsuit against the online platform Fanmio.
Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez approved Masvidal’s request, confirming the ruling of an arbitrator who awarded the former BMF champion $5,315,268.64, plus post-judgment interest.
Masvidal sued Fanmio in January, alleging that his agreement for the boxing match against Nate Diaz included a $6 million purse, plus an additional million if he won the fight. Masvidal lost the fight by decision and claimed to have received only a $150,000 advance and a $1 million payment.
The referee ruled in favor of Masvidal, and with the final approval, this matter has been resolved.
However, Fanmio still faces lawsuits from other fighters.
Nate Diaz filed a lawsuit against Fanmio two weeks after Masvidal’s, claiming more than $9 million. An arbitrator awarded Diaz $6 million, plus attorney’s fees. That case is still awaiting final approval.
In March, Fanmio filed a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions and Ryan Garcia.
