Anthony Joshua issued his first public update following the car accident in Nigeria that involved him, which resulted in injuries and the tragic loss of two of his close friends and team members.
Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele lost their lives after the vehicle they were traveling in with Joshua collided with a parked truck on a main road near Lagos on Monday.
The boxer was taken to a hospital and discharged on Wednesday. He has already returned to the UK before the funerals of Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Ayodele, one of his trainers.
The former heavyweight champion posted two images on Instagram on Sunday, where he is seen with his mother and three other women, one of whom was holding a photograph of Ghami.
The post was accompanied by the caption “My guardian brother”.
On Friday, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, who was driving the car with Joshua as a passenger, was charged for the accident at the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court.
Joshua, born in Watford to Nigerian parents, was on vacation in the African country after his knockout victory in the sixth round over Jake Paul, the YouTuber turned boxer, in Miami on December 19th.
