Joe Bugner, Boxing Legend, Dies: Farewell to the Champion at 75
The boxing world mourns the loss of one of its legends. Joe Bugner, former heavyweight champion, has passed away at the age of 75. The news was confirmed by the British Boxing Board of Control last Monday, detailing that Bugner passed away at his residence in Brisbane, Australia. Throughout his distinguished career, Bugner starred in memorable fights, facing figures of the stature of Henry Cooper, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and Frank Bruno. One of the highlights of his career was his fight for the heavyweight world title against Ali in 1975, where, despite his effort, he lost on points in Kuala Lumpur. With great sadness, the British Boxing Board of Control announces the passing of Joe Bugner, former British, European and Commonwealth heavyweight champion, and world championship contender, at his residence in Brisbane, Australia. Born in Hungary, Bugner moved to the United Kingdom with his family in 1956, thus beginning his path in boxing. Promoter Frank Warren also expressed his regret through social media.
