Jaron “Boots” Ennis Moves Up in Weight Class: Superwelterweight Debut Against Uisma Lima

Former welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis is preparing for his debut in the super welterweight category. The expected match will take place on October 11 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, in an eliminator fight for the WBA title against Uisma Lima. The event will be broadcast on DAZN, according to Matchroom Boxing.

“They can say whatever they want, it makes no difference to me,” Ennis stated in a Matchroom Boxing release. “These guys can’t lace my shoes. I’m the best in the world and they know it. I want all the big names and belts: the tour continues.”

Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) returns to his hometown to try his luck in a new weight division. In his most recent fight, Ennis defeated Eimantas Stanionis in the sixth round, becoming the WBA and IBF welterweight champion. However, instead of defending his titles, Ennis chose to move up to 154 pounds after signing a multi-year contract extension with Matchroom Boxing. His debut will be against a relatively unknown opponent, Lima (14-1, 10 KOs). The Angolan boxer, residing in Portugal, is currently on a four-fight winning streak after losing by unanimous decision to Aaron McKenna in 2023.

“I am very excited to face the biggest challenge of my life against a world-class boxer like Ennis,” Lima stated. “I believe in myself… we are going to war. Please, don’t underestimate me, Boots, because I am going to win.”

Currently, Terence Crawford holds the WBA title. However, with Crawford moving up in weight to face Canelo Álvarez in September, he will likely have to vacate the title. Yoenis Tellez is the interim champion and would be promoted if the title becomes vacant. Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing has also suggested that Ennis could face WBC interim title holder Vergil Ortiz in early 2026.
