Jaron “Boots” Ennis Debuts at 154 Pounds: Meteoric Rise in Boxing

17 Min Read

Boxing offered a quiet weekend, with few changes in the divisional rankings.

Jaron “Boots” Ennis Successfully Debuts at 154 Pounds

Jaron “Boots” Ennis made his official debut at 154 pounds on Saturday in Philadelphia, delivering a one-sided beating to Uisma Lima and sending a clear warning to the division. Ennis knocked down Lima twice in the first round, achieving the stoppage of the fight at minute 1:58 of the same round. Although Lima did not represent a great test for Ennis, the impressive performance of the former unified welterweight champion was enough for him to debut in the number 3 position in the super welterweight ranking.

Yoenli Hernández Wins by KO in the First Round

Yoenli Hernández, number 8 in the middleweight ranking, achieved a victory in the first round by dominating veteran Ramon De La Cruz Sena on Sunday in Florida, in what was a fight to stay active. Hernández sent Sena to the canvas with a body shot in the first minute of the fight, and Sena didn’t have many opportunities. Although he made it to the end of the first round, the fight was stopped before the start of the second. Hernández remains in the number 8 spot and awaits a real challenge in his next fight.

Boxing rankings by division highlight the best athletes in each weight category. These rankings are updated according to recent results and performances. Boxers who have announced their move to a different weight category will be ranked in that new division, if applicable, only after having fought in it. Boxers who currently hold titles in two divisions may be ranked in both.

Boxers who have not competed in the last 12 months, and who do not have a scheduled fight, will be removed from the rankings until they fight again. Any boxer who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer may re-enter the rankings after their next bout.
