Domestic Violence Case Against Gervonta Davis Dismissed

The domestic violence case involving WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has been dismissed. According to the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts website, the misdemeanor battery charge against Davis, stemming from an alleged domestic altercation with his ex-girlfriend on Father’s Day, was formally dropped Tuesday morning. The decision was made after the woman declined to prosecute the boxer.

“This case was dismissed as the victim is refusing to prosecute, according to her lawyer, Lindsey Chase, Esq. We directly confirmed her feelings with the Assistant State Attorney handling the case,” the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office stated to TMZ Sports.

Furthermore, the witness to the incident, the victim’s mother, also did not cooperate and did not appear at a pre-trial conference on Thursday, August 7. Subsequent attempts to contact the witness by phone were unsuccessful. Davis was arrested in Miami Beach, transported to the Doral Police Department, and held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on July 11. He was released that same day on a $10,000 bond. According to the police report, Davis’s ex-girlfriend told the police that she had a verbal argument with the boxer about “personal matters and Gervonta’s insecurities about his son’s sexuality.” Davis arrived at his residence on June 15th at 5:04 p.m. ET to pick up his children, at which point the situation escalated. After putting both children in Davis’s car, the woman alleged that Davis hit her “on the back of the head with a closed fist” and slapped her in the face. After regaining custody of her children during the incident, the woman went to a local hospital for medical treatment. A note in the police report also suggested that there had been “approximately 10” undocumented physical altercations between Davis and his ex-girlfriend. Davis’ initial court hearing was scheduled for July 29, but was postponed until Tuesday, with the case finally closed by Judge Elisabeth Maria Espinosa Marin. Davis was linked to a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. in August, after both fighters had a controversial majority draw in March. However, the fight was never formally announced, and it is unknown when Davis will return to the ring.
