Fundora vs. Thurman: World Title Defense Delayed by Injury
The expected WBC super welterweight world title defense of Sebastian Fundora against Keith Thurman, scheduled for October 25, has been postponed due to a hand injury Fundora suffered during training. Sampson Lewkowicz, Fundora’s manager, along with representatives from Premier Boxing Champions, confirmed the news and the postponement of the event. The fight between Fundora and Thurman was to be the main event of the “PBC on Prime” card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. PBC representatives expressed their desire to reschedule the fight as soon as possible, once the severity of Fundora’s injury and recovery time are determined. The co-main event, which was to pit WBC super lightweight champion O’Shaquie Foster against featherweight champion Stephen Fulton, will also be rescheduled for a later date. This is the second time the Foster-Fulton matchup has been rescheduled, as it was initially planned for August on a card that included a fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach that ultimately did not materialize. Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) was hoping to fight for the third time in 2025. This year he achieved knockouts over Tim Tszyu and Chordale Booker. The fight against Thurman represented an important title defense for “The Towering Inferno”. Thurman (36-1, 23 KOs) aimed to obtain the super welterweight title for the second time. In March, Thurman was forced to withdraw from a WBC title fight against Tszyu due to an injury, being replaced by Fundora, who achieved victory and the title. Thurman, 36 years old, has only fought once since 2022, obtaining a technical knockout victory over Brock Jarvis in March 2025.Fundora will return in January 2026.
